Maria T. Jackson - Biography

Professional Experience:
Judge Maria T. Jackson was appointed to the Municipal Courts of the City of Houston in 2003. Judge Jackson also serves as a trainer and instructor for the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center. Judge Jackson’s dedication has not gone unnoticed by the public she diligently serves, nor by her colleagues and elected officials. Notably, Judge Jackson was recognized in the Mayor’s Spotlight, making her the first judge to be acknowledged in the City of Houston’s employee paper. Judge Jackson was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for Texas Wesleyan University School of Law. Judge Jackson has experience in both criminal and civil law.

Professional Activities and Memberships:
Judge Jackson currently serves as a member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas State Bar College, American Bar Association, Houston Lawyers Association, Houston Bar Association, Texas Municipal Courts Association, Professional Women in Government and the National Association of Bond Lawyers. Judge Jackson's community involvement includes being a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, serving on the Lamb & Goat Committee. She is also an active member of the Houston Chapter of Links Incorporated, serving as the Chairman on the Services to Youth program facet, NAACP, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and sustaining member of the Harris County Democratic Party. In addition, Judge Jackson is a member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church.

Education
Judge Jackson earned a B.A. in Political Science in 1987 from the University of Texas at Arlington (Honors) and a Doctor of Juris Prudence in 1998 from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law. She is a Certified Mediator and has her Certification in Probate Law.
